WALK THROUGH A WORKHOUSE June 2023
This site-responsive project made use of group walking, temporary installations and performative storytelling to guide participants through the footprint of a demolished workhouse in Hillside Park, London.
Moving between former rooms, the walk culminated at the site of the “Dead House,” where participants gathered to commemorate inmates whose lives and experiences have been erased from public memory. The project examined the regime and social control of the Victorian workhouse and connections found in contemporary labour conditions. The event was included in the festivals Sound September 2022, London Festival of Architecture in 2022 and Local Stories Festival in 2023.
