COLLECTORS & DEBTORS London – October 2023

a walk tracing institutional collections and creation of cultural capital

This participatory walk unfolded across Lincoln’s Inn Fields, exploring entangled histories of collecting, wealth and appropriation embedded within cultural and institutional sites.

With artist-created cards combining text and image, participants moved between locations including John Soane’s Museum, the Hunterian Museum, the Marshall Building at the London School of Economics, Anish Kapoor’s residence and the former Insolvent Debtors’ Court. The event opened space for shared discussion about the shadow side of material collections and how cultural value and prestige are shaped through systems of accumulation and exclusion.

The project was presented during the Anti-University Festival October 2023 and the London Festival of Architecture 2022.
