DROUGHT Hillside Park, London – September 2022
a meditative event witnessing and acknowledging ecological damage
Taking place during the prolonged heat and drought of summer 2022, this meditative group event was situated in a park landscape of visibly stressed vegetation.
As participants walked together slowly among the drought damaged grasses and trees, excerpts from J. G. Ballard’s The Drought were read aloud, drawing connections between fiction and lived environmental conditions. The event concluded with a shared silent gathering around affected trees. The work created space for collective witnessing of climate change as an immediate, local and embodied experience.
