Trees Talk – June 26th, 2021

A collaborative artwork exploring trees’ underground landscape of mutual support. This event was hosted by London Festival of Architecture June 2021.

Inspired by the underground networks that trees use to share resources and create mutual protection and care, the artists organised this outdoor event as a safe means of people congregating together during the Covid pandemic and sharing in an artmaking event.

The performance involved the artists weaving a web between the two trees with braided ropes, where their actions embodied the trees’ bonds of communication and their sharing of resources. The audience participated in this enactment of trees’ connectivity by interweaving additional ropes into the installation. The audience remained after the performance to socialise; postcards made by the artists, with further resources about how trees communicate , were distributed to all participants.
